English version:
007-RIW: in these last weeks you had the chance to ride hms sails. How did you find them? Where are today these sails in comparison to your style?
KS: it was really good to experience new feelings, it really open my mind towards some sail designs , like the dacron sails like the SuperFreak Maui edition really blow my mind how stable and easy to sail they are , and for sure extra resistant. The Quad and Firelight feel more like the conventional sails, but the firelight had these extra light materials that you can really notice the sail been so light for a 5 batten sail, it almost felt like a 4 batten!
007-RIW: where do you think you can bring these sails adding your value? And where do you think these sails can bring you adding value to your style?
KS: i think there will be a lot to add for both sides, and the best thing is that when i work with Jeff (Henderson) and Tom (Hammerton), it is so easy to make them understand what I’m looking for on the sail as they are windsurfer and are all the time in the water with me, so i will be able to have the magic sails for sure! They are so passionate about windsurf! Now that i meet Jeff i can see how much he loves windsurf and that is the reason he has been building sails for 30 years and he totally understand my felling about the sport.
007-RIW: we have read your interview with Continentseven where you explained your reasons for quitting NeilPryde. Was it an easy choice for you? Were you so sure about the direction which you wanted to take or was still hard to decide between still doing 100% competitions with NeilPryde and developing your projects without them?
KS: i think life brings always new opportunities, and if you are afraid of changes you maybe be bored for the rest of your life. i was very clear in my head of what i wanted to do these year , and i try to follow what my heart says , because if I’m happy , that is what matters, and hot sails really supported and liked my ideas for the following years.
007-RIW: back to your future with HSM, will you have your own wave sails signature line or will you bring your value to a sails line which will be the result of the contribution from several riders?
KS: at the moment we are focusing on trying well all the existing range, and we also do some testing on some ideas …
007-RIW: since you declared for the first time to move from NeilPryde to HSM you had several interviews and you had some more time to think again about it. is there today something which has not been said yet and which you had the chance to develop later?
KS: no, the reason still the same, we had different goals for these year: i wanted to approach more the freesurf and research to improve waveriding, and they wanted competition in onshore .
007-RIW: wave competitions: younger riders are pushing the limits and seem to get more chance to win more and more. What is the key today for a professional wave rider making the PWA? The body efficiency, being fearless, a stronger motivation, the experience? Where is the winning inspiration coming from?
KS: for sure the biggest motivation to me was always to try get better and better , do faster turns , more control , higher moves ….all these end up making you win i guess. Now days the level is crazy , so many new faces in the sport , and a lot of kids ripping , and they come for sure with energy and new ideas to develop even more the sport!
007-RIW: how difficult is today the windsurfing market? how to push it to a level economically more interesting for all the parties in this game?
KS: i guess windsurf is an expensive sport, but now the gear is getting really efficient and stronger also, and for sure a durable equipment also will help on the pocket!
007-RIW: you are still with Jp-Australia which belongs to the Pryde group. There is a general trend to sponsor the riders based on the same boards/sails group: Fanatic/NorthSails, Starboard/Severne, 04/Goya, Goya/Goya. But there are also exceptions of riders who break this trend. What do you think: why/how it was possible for you to keep the sponsorship with Jp-Australia without assuring a 100% involvement in competitions and without a sponsorship with NeilPryde?
KS: they are under the same main company but they are separated departments, and they can make different calls, and also sometimes different marketing strategies i guess. We also do a lot of work together on the sup and windsurf quad line!
