Il campione del mondo PWA wave 2014 Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing, MFC, Pirelli) e’ tornato lo scorso weekend per un tour promozionale sul lago di Garda presso il surf shop Detour SURFandSNOW.it e il PierWindsurf. RIWmag lo ha raggiunto virtualmente per un’intervista. Quanto tempo e’ trascorso tra la mail con le domande (che Marcilio non si aspettava) e quella con le risposte? Un tempo da campioni del mondo: 50 minuti!
RIW: Ciao Marcilio! Sei torna in Italia e al Lago di Garda! Qual è stato il motivo di questo ultimo viaggio e che cosa hai fatto questo weekend?
Marcilio Browne: Il motivo e’ stato quello di visitare i miei amici del negozio Detour, fare una visita un po’ intorno al lago e anche visitare l’ufficio Pirelli a Milano. Ho passato un bel momento siccome ho molti amici dal Lago di Garda che non riesco a vedere troppo spesso, è stato fantastico anche mangiare del cibo veramente buono in Italia.
RIW: Finora hai visitato solo il lago di Garda o hai avuto la possibilità di visitare anche qualche altro spot italiano di windsurf?
M.B.: Finora ho solo avuto modo di vedere il Lago di Garda. Molti anni fa sono andato a Pisa ma solo per un giorno. Ho sentito un sacco di belle cose buone del windsurf in Sardegna, appena ho la possibilità mi piacerebbe visitarla.
RIW: Due anni fa hai vinto il titolo mondiale. L’anno scorso ci hai tentato di nuovo ma il titolo è stato vinto da Thomas Traversa. Che cosa ha reso possibile vincere il titolo due anni fa e qual’e’ stato l’ostacolo l’anno scorso?
M.B.: Il livello è molto alto e a questo punto ci sono un paio di ragazzi che potrebbero vincere il titolo, sono felice di essere uno di quei 10 o 15 ragazzi che spingono per questo risultato. Thomas ha navigato alla grande e credo di avere avuto un buon anno fatto da un paio di podi e dal 4to posto assoluto, che oltre all’anno che ho vinto è stato il mio miglior risultato! Quindi vedo il 2014 come un anno molto positivo nel tour PWA. Ho fatto qualche errore, ma ho anche imparato da questi errori, così provero’ a non ripeterli (magari guardando la bacheca un po’ più spesso, hahahaha).
M.B.: Penso che ci sia una regola per cui i top riders PWA non sono autorizzati a fare l’AWT.
RIW: Come vedi la nuova prossima stagione wave in PWA? Hai intenzione di lottare per un secondo titolo? Chi potrebbe essere, accanto a te, qualche altro rider in grado di vincere la stagione 2015?
M.B.: Sì, di sicuro l’obiettivo è un altro titolo, sarebbe un sogno! Il mio obiettivo quest’anno è quello di ottenere solo un sacco di tempo in acqua, restare in forma e davvero godere di questo incredibile vita che abbiamo nel tour. Mi piace molto ogni suo aspetto, gli spots, gli amici, le condizioni, tutto il cibo che mangiamo in tutto il mondo, siamo fortunati ad avere questo come un lavoro e così io cerco di goderne ogni secondo.

The 2014 PWA wave world champion Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing, MFC, Pirelli) last weekend was back to Italy for a promotional tour on Garda Lake at the surf shop Detour SURFandSNOW.it and at PierWindsurf. RIWmag has virtually reached him for an interview. How much time did it elapse between the mail with the questions (which Marcilio did not expect) and the one with the answers? Some world champions time: 50 minutes!
RIW: Hi Marcilio! You were back to Italy and to Garda Lake! Which was the reason for this last trip and what did you do there?
Marcilio Browne: The reason was to visit my friends from Detour shop, cruise a bit around the lake and also visit the Pirelli office in Milan. Had a really nice time as I have many friends from Lake Garda that I don’t get to see too often, it was great catching up and eating some really good Italian food.
RIW: So far did you visit just the Garda Lake or have you had the chance to visit also some other windsurf spots?
M.B.: So far I only got to see Garda Lake pretty much, many years ago I went around Pisa but just for one day. I have heard a lot of good things about windsurfing in Sardegna, as soon as I get a chance would love to check it out.
RIW: Two years ago you won the world title. Last year you tried again but the title was won by Thomas Traversa. What was making possible to win the title two years ago and what was the obstacle last year?
M.B.: The level is very high and at this point there are a couple guys that could win the title, I am happy to be one of those 10 or 15 guys pushing for that. Thomas sailed great and I felt like I had a good year too, made a few podiums and finish 4th, which apart from the year that I won was my best result, so I see 2014 as a very positive year on tour. I made some mistakes but I also learned from those, so I try will not repeat them (maybe looking at the notice board a bit more often, hahahaha).
RIW: At the beginning of the year we understood that you wanted to participate also to some AWT events but finally it was not possible. What happened?
M.B.: I think there is a rule that the top PWA ranked sailors are not allowed to do the AWT.
M.B.: Yes, for sure the goal is another title, would be a dream! My focus this year is to just get a lot of time in the water, staying fit and really enjoying this amazing life that we have on tour, I really love every aspect of it, the spots, friends, conditions, the food we eat all over the world, we are lucky to have this as a job so I will enjoy every second of it.
