Victor Fernandez, mister E42, ha recentemente cambiato sponsor per le mute ed è passato ad ION. RIWmag l’ha intervistato a proposito della sua stagione e di questo “cambio di casacca”.
RIW: Ciao Victor, è un onore intervistarti. Hai concluso la stagione PWA al terzo posto e hai gareggiato alla Red Bull Storm Chase. Com’è andato il tuo 2013?
Victor Fernandez: il 2013 è stato un anno molto impegnativo per me, tra il Tour PWA e la RBSchase, ma è stato fantastico gareggiare in queste competizioni. Quest’anno il PWA, con solo 3 eventi conteggiabili per le classifiche, era aperto a qualsiasi risultato. Avere Maui in calendario è stato ottimo per il nostro tour, avevamo bisogno di eventi sulle altre mura per rendere il PWA più grande e completo. La Storm Chase è stato qualcosa di nuovo per me, navigare nelle tempeste è stata un’ottima esperienza e sopravvivere a quelle condizioni sembra irreale.
RIW: Ti stai allenando duramente per la prossima stagione? Quali sono i tuoi obiettivi? Vuoi fare un pronostico?
V.F: Si, mi sto allenando duramente per questa stagione. Sono stato in Chile per due mesi ad allenarmi sulle mie mura, e adesso sono stato a casa, in Spagna, durante gli ultimi due mesi, per allenarmi sulle mura opposte. Ho avuto fantastiche condizioni e mi sono preparato anche fisicamente in palestra. I miei obiettivi per quest’anno sono di spingere il mio livello verso il limite e lottare per il titolo alla fine dell’anno.
RIW: Hai cambiato sponsor per le mute, ora sei un atleta ION. Cosa ci dici a riguardo?
V.F: Sono molto contento di essere sponsorizzato da ION. Hanno prodotti incredibili. Indosserò queste nuove mute e trapezi per i prossimi due anni. Essere in questo team è grandioso, ci sono molti altri riders Fanatic/North Sails, come Klaas Voget, Gollito Estredo e Alessio Stillrich.
RIW: ION è gestita dalla Boards&More come Fanatic e North Sails. Sei con Fanatic e North Sails da molto tempo..questo ti ha aiutato nel cambiamento? Come mai è avvenuto solo ora e non qualche anno fa?
V.F: Questo è il mio dodicesimo anno con Fanatic e il sesto con North Sails. Io usavo mute Quiksilver fino all’anno scorso, ma ho ricevuto un’offerta da ION e ho accettato: penso che possono promuovermi molto bene e insieme possiamo sviluppare degli ottimi prodotti. Sono orgoglioso di fare parte di questo team.

RIW:Hi Victor, interviewing you is a pleasure. You got the third place PWA and you competed in the Red Bull Storm Chase. What about your 2013?
Victor Fernandez: 2013 was a busy year for me on the PWA Tour and the RBSChase but it was fantastic to be part of it. On the PWA this year with only 3 events counting the PWA title was very open for many sailors. Including Maui on the calendar was very good for our tour as we need some more starboardtack events to make the tour bigger and more complete. The Storm Chase was something new for me, sailing on the biggest storms was a good experience and surviving this conditions was unreal.
RIW: Are you training hard for the upcoming season? What are your goals? May you do some forecast?
V.F.: Yes, I´m training hard for this season now. I´ve been in Chile for 2 months training portack and now at home in Spain in the last 2 months training starboardtack with amazing conditions and also preparing myself phisically at the gym. My golas for this season is to push my level to the max and fight for the title at the end of the year.
RIW: You’ve changed your wetsuit sponsors, now you’re a ION athlete. What about this change?
V.F.: I´m very happy to be sponsor by ION. They have amazing products. I will be wearing their new wetsuits and harnesses for the next 2 years. It´s great to be in this team with other Fanatic and North Sails team riders as Klaas Voget, Gollito Estredo and Alessio Stilrich among others.
RIW: Ion is managed by Boards&More as Fanatic and North Sails. You are with Fanatic and North Sails since a long while now. How did this help to move to Ion? How could it happen just now and not sooner?
V.F.: This is my 12th year on Fanatic and my 6th year on North Sails. I was on Quiksilver wetsuits until last year but I got an offer from ION so I accept it as I think they can promote me and we can develop the products together very good, I´m very glad to part of the team.
