RIWmag.com ha intervistato Dany Bruch, il forte atleta Starboard/Challenger Sails. Dany si trova a Maui per il photoshooting Starboard e racconta come procede la sua preparazione in vista della prossima stagione e del suo impegno nei confronti della veleria italiana, CHS.
RIW: Cosa ti ha spinto a Maui?
Dany Bruch: La ragione iniziale era l’annuale photoshooting che Starbord fa qui a Maui ma, certamente, una volta qui, ho voluto allenarmi un pò a Hookipa in modo da essere un pò più preparato in vista dell’evento PWA che si terrà qui alla fine dell’anno. Dovevo partire oggi, ma sta arrivando un ottimo swell e quindi ho spostato il mio aereo. Vedremo cosa prenderò!
RIW: Come si svolgono le tue giornate in questi giorni?
D.B.: Beh, tutti i giorni qui a Maui mi sveglio presto, prendo un caffè, faccio una colazione leggera e mi alleno 1 o 2 ore. Poi faccio una colazione da “veri uomini” e vado a surfare tutto il giorno finchè non diventa buio! Questa è la cosa bella dell’essere qui solo per il windsurf..a casa ho un programma simile, colazione leggera, 1.2 ore di allenamento con il mio personal trainer, e poi vado in acqua se le condizioni sono buone per il sup, surf o windsurf..altrimenti lavoro come un matto per la preparazione dell’imminente evento PWA a Tenerife! Se c’è vento faccio una free session e alcuni test per le nuove tavole wave 2016…solitamente surfo dalle 2 alle 5 ore, a seconda di quanto è buono!
RIW: Stiamo vedendo ufficialmente per la prima volta la tua vela CHS 3G DB Edition. Puoi dirci qualcosa di più? Quali sono le sue caratteristiche?
D.B.: Le vele vanno veramente bene! Sono molto felice con loro! Qui a Maui ho fatto i ltest finale. Ho provato le vele piccole in condizioni molto ventose a casa, dalla 3.7 alla 4.2, abbiamo avuto un ottimo inverno devo dire! Quindi le misure piccole sono ben testate e pronte! Ora qui a Maui sto testando la 5.0 e la 4.7 e sono meravigliose! Hanno un range di utilizzo molto ampio..la 5.0 per esempio, l’ho usata quando gli altri erano con la 5.3 o più e comunque planavo prima di loro! E in altri giorni, quando il vento aumentava un pò o era super rafficato, la 5.0 si comportava comunque benissimo! Amo la potenza extra dovuta al dacron..ti dà molto più spunto per saltare o nel wave riding..e le vele sono robuste!! non avete idea di quante volte sono finito a rocce a Hookipa! ahahah..e la vela è perfetta! Ha alcuni graffi ma è pronta a ricevere botte molto più dure! Devo anche dire che le misure piccole sono super stabili con vento molto forte e mi danno molto più spunto per l’air time!
RIW: Come sta andando la tua collaborazione con CHS?
D.B.: Sta andando molto bene! Vado molto d’accordo con Claudio e Raffaello, il designer, ha fatto un ottimo lavoro con le nuove vele! Non potrei essere più felice al momento! Ho le vele che ho sempre voluto!
RIW: Quali sono i tuoi obiettivi per la nuova stagione al PWA?
D.B.: Il mio obiettivo principale è di tornare nella top10. Ora il livello è super alto e sarà un’impresa difficile! Ma mi sto allenando molto tutti i giorni con molta serietà! Staremo a vedere.. ;)

RIW: What is the reason for your actual trip to Maui?
Dany Bruch: The initial reason was the anual photoshoot that Starboard does here in Maui, but of course, once here, I wanted to train a bit at Hookipa to be a bit more prepared for the PWA event here at the end of the year. I was going to leave today the 2nd, but a good swell is arriving tomorrow and for the next few days, so I have extended my ticket! Lets see what we get!
RIW: How are you (daily) busy during these days?
D.B.: Well everyday I here in Maui I get up early, have a coffee and a light breakfast and do like 1 too 2 hours of workout…then I have a “real mans”;-) breakfast and I go sailing all day until it is dark! That is the nice thing of being here for only windsurfing…at home I have a similar program, light breakfast, 1-2 hours training with my personal trainer and then I either go on the water if there is something available to either surf, sup or windsurf or if not I am full on working for the preparation for the upcoming PWA event in Tenerife! If its windy I usually have a free session and then I do some testing of the new 2016 wave boards…I normally sail around 2-5 hours a day, depending how good it is! ;-)
RIW: Officially for the first time we are seeing your DB edition CHS 3G sails. May you tell us more about it? Which are their features?
D.B.: Well the sails are working really really good! I am so happy with them! Here in Maui it has been the final test! I tried the small sails in really high winds at home, from 3.7 to 4.2 all the time, we had a great winter I have to say! So the small sizes are well tested and ready! Now here in Maui, I have been testing the 5.0 and the 4.7, and it has been amazing! The sails have got such a high range of wind…the 5.0 for example I have been using when others were on 5.3 or bigger and I still started to plain earlier than them! And then on some days were the wind just picked up or was super gusty, 5.0 was still handling it very smooth! I am loving that extra power you get trough the dacron wrinkle…it just gives you so much more lift for jumping or wave riding…and the sails are strong!! You have no idea how many times I have been out of the rocks at Hookipa!! ha ha ha…and the sail is fine! Got a few scratches but still ready to receive some more hard time! I also have to say that the small sizes are super super stable in high winds and I have been getting so much lift and more airtime that it has blown my mind!
RIW: How is your collaboration with CHS going?
D.B.: Its going really well! I come along with Claudio very well and the designer Raffaello has been doing a really great job with the new sails! I can not be happier right now! I got the sails I always wanted!
RIW: What are your objectives for the new PWA season?
D.B.: My main goal is to be back in the top 10! Right now level is super high and it will be hard work! But for that I am training hard every day and taking it very serious! Let’s see how it goes! ;-)
