We are at the end of the year, when it is natural to make a summary of the 12 months just passed.
As in the previous 2 years even 2015 was characterized by the strong commitment and the constant presence of RIWmag that, thanks to the continuity of the work done in the past, has increased attention and acclaim around its online activities.
As always I like to remember that RIWmag is a team work result and I will never be able to thank sufficiently all those who follow and support us: readers, athletes, editors and collaborators, photographers, distributors, Companies from industry and all advertisers (Simmer, Challenger Sails, ZZsurf, NP, Naish, Nikon Live, Claudio Bertagna, Claudio Badiali, Maurizio Andreello, Luis Marchegger, Benni Bozano, Kubus Sports BV, Davide Raffaelli, Marco Rovere and Ettore Stramignoni).
Additionally in the world of windsurfing at both national and international levels there seems to be an economical revival thanks to companies that are emerging bringing new assets that directly or indirectly definitely will benefit the entire sector.
But I can not deny that the recent events that occurred in last months about possible new war scenarios make me quite worry as a man more than as a windsurfer.
We live in a time when it seems that after the great battles and achievements of the last century we got insensitive and used to the injustices of every day.
Not that injustices did not exist in the past, but the attitudes and people’s aspirations had a completely different perspective.
Of course, I’m not going to deal with off-topic issues, but I think that among sportsmen and sports fans, especially within “purist” sports like windsurfing, there is a common moral and ethical basis.
Our tendency is to let the negative things outside of our sport sphere to instead find our ideal world only within this sphere.
And why rather not try to do something more? Why do not try to export the positive things from the inside of this sphere to the outside? No need for heroics or big battles, it takes small gestures every day.
Is that scary? A shame? Does it seem a lost cause?
But in the end what do windsurfers dream? Do not they (almost all, more or less) dream one day to become the heroes of the waves, or of the maneuvers or between the buoys?
And who are the heroes if not people who pursue their dreams even when they are in conditions that are seemingly lost from the start?
But what makes really a hero? Only the final achievement itself or the shared values needed for achieving it along the path?
So why to play at being heroes only in the world of windsurfing and not trying to cultivate and to export outside what that we all know to be good and strong from the sport of windsurfing?
To each of us the arduous task of trying to find some answers, if ever you consider it appropriate and sufficiently interesting.
I conclude by sending the best wishes for Happy Holidays with a video not about windsurf but with an unmistakable and familiar Hawaiian style which I hope you will watch from the beginning to the end, and inspired by the tattoo of the new world surfing champion Adriano De Souza, I pray because this Christmas and New Year could bring more than the wind and the waves also more strength, more balance and more love for everybody.
PS: RIWmag editorial office is going to be closed for holidays from December 24 to January 6.
